THE (HI)STORY OF IDEA Webinar on 18th June

16 Jun 2022 12:59 AM | Anonymous
The sixth session of THE (HI)STORY OF IDEA webinar will take place on Saturday, 18th June at 10:30 am UTC on Zoom.

The event is conceptualized as an intergenerational and intercultural dialogue that examines IDEA history through a critical lens, but also with an aim of tracking the evolution of drama/theatre education and directing its future.

The featured guests of the upcoming session are Mok Chiu Yu (Hong Kong), the Co-Director of the 2007 IDEA World Congress in Hong Kong, and Tomas Leijen (The Netherlands), the current Co-Director of Projects and Concepts at IDEA. The session host is Sanja Krsmanović Tasić (Serbia), the IDEA President, while the technical host is the IDEA Administrator Borisav Matić (Serbia).

Mok Chiu Yu graduated from the University of Adelaide with a B.Ec. degree and completed his counseling training at the University of Keele. He has worked as a youth worker, newspaper editor, high school teacher, arts festival organizer and cultural worker since 1990. He was working in the field of arts and disability and became involved with people's theatre and Community Cultural Development.  He has extensive experience in cross-cultural collaborations in theatre. He has also been a keen promoter and proficient facilitator in various educational and community theatre methodologies. He was the Congress Director of IDEA 2007 in Hong Kong. He won the first-ever Drama Achievement Award presented by Hong Kong's Arts Development Council in 1999. He also has been an important person promoting performance art, SAORI weaving and arts therapies in Hong Kong.

Tomas Leijen, born in 1996, is a dramaturg, teacher and theatre director for participatory theatre projects. In 2015 he received his diploma for Acting in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. After that, he did the program to become a theatre teacher at the Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten (Amsterdam University of the Arts), which he finished in 2020. He also followed the courses Community Art, Audience and Spectatorship and Theatre and Dance History at the University of Utrecht and an introductory course Cultural Sociology at the University of Amsterdam.

He now works as a dramaturg, giving dramaturgic advice at diverse places such as theatre companies and community centers. A lot of the projects Tomas works for as a dramaturg and/or director are interdisciplinary and search for co-creation and collaboration within and outside the ‘artistic’ field, his belief is that at these places new forms and inspiration can be found.

Besides that, Tomas Leijen is the Director of Projects and Concepts at IDEA (International Drama/Theatre and Education Association), the fringe programme director for AfroVibes Performing Arts Festival and RIGHTABOUTNOW Inc. and he teaches at multiple art universities different courses such as Concept development, Theatre Theories and Reflexivity.
